Dispute claims teenager’s life

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, July 14: A dispute over playing billiards took the life of a teenager in Bhagiwala locality of Kamalia on Sunday.

Iqbal Husain and Asif exchanged hot words while playing billiards. Later, Asif kicked Iqbal in the abdomen, as a result of which he died on the spot.

Police have registered a case and conducting raids for the arrest of the accused.

FALLS TO DEATH: A man was killed when he fell from the roof of a running bus on the Gojra-Toba Road here on Sunday.

Afaq, a resident of Chak 45-GB, Faisalabad, was travelling by sitting on the roof of a bus. Suddenly he slipped and fell down on the road near the Janiwala railway station. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to hospital where he died.

GOVERNOR: Governor Khalid Maqbool is expected to visit all the three tehsil headquarters of the district on July 17.

He will address selected gatherings of Nazimeen, councillors and notables in Gojra, Kamalia and Toba Tek Singh.

MERIT POLICY: The district government has so far failed to formulate a merit policy for the appointment of teachers on a five-year contract against 930 vacant posts in local schools.

A source told this correspondent on Sunday that more than 22,000 applications had been received by the Education Department in the district and all the applicants had a qualification above BA.

Earlier, it was decided that the merit will be made schoolwise but there are scores of such applicants who have higher qualification and applied in dozens of schools. Some of the union council Nazimeen want that the merit should be made at tehsil or district level while the others are in favour of making the merit at union council level. The awarding of five marks for interview will also be decisive when there will be a tough competition between the candidates.
