LAHORE, July 13: Chestnut gelding Lake District, who posted an amazing victory in his outing last Sunday, looks poised to win during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Sunday.

Lake District is contesting in the fourth and supporting event, the Mianwali Plate class VII division I & II combined handicap race to be run over the sprinting distance of 900 metres.

Among his 14 rivals, another chestnut gelding Crysler and bay filly Devi Husn Ki will pose a stiff challenge.

The three-year-old Sound Of Music is making a steady progress to gain form but has not shown any promise yet.

Imagine If (Blu’s Maid-Affifa), with two impressive back to back victories, will be on the trot to make a hat trick of wins when he appears in the third race of the day.

He has only to beat bay colt Thunder Storm and bay filly Mahnoor among his seven rivals.

The feature event has a field of eight runners, barring last- minute withdrawals. Shah The Great, who is carrying a top weight of ten stones four pounds has a slight edge over the other seven contenders.

Shah The Great had won a good race carrying 9-2 in the same company a fortnight ago. He is promoted in the weight scales and appearing in the fifth and last race, the Nawab Shah Plate, a Class IV & V combined event to be contested over 900 metres.

The Lahore Race Club is facing acute shortage of entries for the races these days owing to the fact that the majority of owners have started resting their horses in view of the scorching heat and humid atmosphere.

This has prompted the LRC authorities to appeal to all owners and trainers to enter their horses in large numbers to generate interest of the race-goers.

In a notification issued on Saturday the LRC management hoped that the owners and trainers would accede to this request to help make races competitive.

A small card of five event will be decided. All races will be contested over 900 metres. This first race will start at 3.00 pm.
