FAISALABAD, July 8: Jaranwala police got two-day physical remand of all the three accused, including Imam of a mosque who issued a decree (fatwa) against an American engineer, on Monday.

Hafiz Abdul Latif, Asim and Zubair Usman were presented before a court in Jaranwala amid tight security. Commandos were deployed all over the court premises to avoid any untoward incident. The judicial officer granted remand for inquiring whereabouts of the other accomplices and to find motive behind the incident.

The accused are being interrogated at Jaranwala police station while two teams are raiding the houses of other accused.

The police sources said the notables of the area approached their high ups for settling the matter through Panchayat. But they rejected the proposal on the plea that the matter was being supervised by the interior ministry officials in Islamabad.
