India to buy Polish weapons

NEW DELHI, July 5: Indian Junior Defence Production and Supplies Minister Harin Pathak left for Poland on Friday on a six-day visit aimed at cementing growing defence ties between the two countries.

A statement released here by the defence ministry said that Pathak would call on the Polish Minister of Defence, Jerzy Szmaldjdzinski, on Saturday, followed by a meeting with Polish Deputy Defence Minister Janusz Zemke.

Zemke announced on his return from a trip to India and Indonesia in March that Poland planned to sell India an arms package, including tank systems and technical assistance vehicles, worth 147 million dollars.

In the next 12 months, he said, Poland would deliver 250 weapons-guidance systems for Indian T-72 tanks.—AFP
