Rickshaw drivers block roads

SARGODHA, July 3: Scores of rickshaw drivers staged a protest rally on Wednesday to condemn decision of installation of fare meters.

Reports said the drivers swarmed roads and alleged the move was meant to deprive the poor rickshaw drivers of earning.

They threatened they would stage sit-in on roads, if the authorities concerned did not withdraw its decision.

They also voiced concern over collection of toll tax by cantonment board’s contractors.

KILLED: Two persons were killed in different parts of the district on Tuesday night.

Reports said timber merchant Jumma Khan was killed by some people. His body was recovered from the drain near Chak 113-SB.

Police have registered a case.

One Muhammad Nawaz was shot dead by three people in Khebeiki Khurd village in Bhalwal over a minor issue.

Bhalwal police have registered a case against accused Ghulam Ali, his son Riaz and grandson Naeem.

LOOTED: Highwaymen looted cash and valuables and drove away with two-wheelers in various parts of the district on Wednesday.

Three highwaymen reportedly looted cash, valuables and drove away with some vehicles on the Sargodha-Bhalwal Road.

Four armed men looted Rs10,000 in cash from one Khizar Hayat and drove away with his motorbike (SGF-2273) near Sial Sharif.

In another incident, two armed men deprived medical store owner Shaikh Mazhar Husain of Rs30,000 in cash and motorbike (PRD-3398) near Chak 38-NB.

Dacoits also drove away with two more motorbikes in different localities.
