QUETTA, July 1: The Balochistan National Party (Mengal group) has accused the government of not arresting the alleged killers of senior party leader Mir Aslam Gichki.
The government is providing the nominated killers with financial assistance, BNP leader and former Balochistan chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal said, while speaking at a press conference here on Monday. Other party leaders, including Sana Baloch and Habib Jalib, were also present on the occasion.
Sardar Mengal said the party had demanded of the government to arrest the killers by June 30, but the government had made no efforts in that regard. He added that the party had decided to hold a two-day session of its central council to chalk out its future course of action on the issue.
He was of the view that certain political motives had led to the murder of Mir Gichki and that the party did not want to accuse any tribe of his murder without any justification.
He alleged that the “agents” of the government were responsible for the political murder, which, he said, was a conspiracy against the BNP, its leadership and the people of Balochistan. He accused the government of trying to harass his party leaders and keep them away from the national politics.
Mr Mengal maintained that the registration of cases against party leaders was also a part of the conspiracy and that through such tactics the government was putting pressure on the leaders to quit their party and join other parties.
He said that after the murder of Gichki and Ghulam Nabi Marri, another party leader Khan Mohammad Ghulamani had been found dead. He alleged that Ghulamani had been taken into custody by a secret agency for interrogation and after three days, his body had been found near the Aurnach area.
