Heavy rain in Cholistan

BAHAWALPUR, July 1: Cholistan received heavy showers on Sunday night that helped filled all ‘kunds’ and ‘tobas’ in this desert region with rainwater.

The welcome showers not only brought down the temperature but it also provided the much-needed relief to the arid land, increasing potable water for the drought-hit Cholistan residents.

DRUG PUSHERS HELD: Shaidani Sharif police claim to have arrested two drug-traffickers and recovered 1,013 grams of heroin from their possession here on Monday.

Police raided the hideout at Mauza Abbas Nagar and arrested drug pushers Ayyaz Shah and his woman accomplice Mst Shamshad Mai.

ATTACKED: A cooperative inspector and his recovery team members were allegedly attacked by defaulters and their 13 associates at Chak 8-BC near here on Monday.

Muhammad Razzaq, Muhammad Bukhsh and their 13 accomplices attacked Zafar Iqbal and his team members who had gone to recover from them over Rs0.6 million amount.

Baghdad police have registered a case and arrested Razzaq.

KILLED: A motorcyclist, Asghar Ali, was killed while his wife Kaniz Fatima received serious injuries when a speeding truck (RNA-1199) hit them near bus adda at Chak 42-DNB on the Yazman Road.

Yazman police have registered a case against absconding driver, Akhtar Ali.

WHEAT: At least 30,000 metric tonnes of wheat will soon be distributed among the needy and deserving persons in Cholistan.

The Punjab government will provide the wheat to the needy widows and other deserving people.
