KARACHI, July 1: Attention is not being paid by Karachi University authorities towards proper maintenance of the required facilities at the Department of Social Work.

According to faculty members, the department had only two computers and the monitor of one of them is out of order for the last one-and-a-half year and requests to the university’s purchase department for carrying out necessary repairs have not been heeded to.

So only one computer is in a working condition which is not sufficient.

The number of faculty members at the department has risen to ten with the addition of three, but sufficient furniture have not been made available.

The department does not have a direct telephone line and the telephone extensions have also not been made available to the faculty members which is causing inconveniences.

The university authorities were requested for the provision of air conditioner for the audio-visual lab of the department but it has not been provided.

There was a feeling at the department that it is being ignored as compared to other departments.—APP
