PESHAWAR, June 26: Frequent power breakdowns in all parts of the city and elsewhere in the province have become a big problem for the people.

The electricity supply remains cut off for several hours, causing unrest among the people.

The painfully long spells of power breakdowns have hit hard the business community in Cantonment and city areas. The worst sufferers are the students who are busy in their studies in different hostels and in their homes.

The doctors at the city hospitals said that the number of children suffering from malaria has shot up tremendously. According to them, the frequent suspensions of power have paved the way for mosquitoes to attack children. They informed that several patients on hospital beds also suffer due to non- availability of electricity.

These frequent power interruptions have also caused shortage of water because many of the tube-wells supplying water to different localities have become idle.

The lack of electricity has also affected the performance of the government and private offices, because it is impossible for the employees to work in this situation.

The problem in rural areas has landed the people in a difficult situation where the power supply remains cut off for days. This has also affected besides students and patients, the farmer community who needs the commodity to operate tube-wells.

The enraged people in Mardan district on Monday came on the roads against the frequent and unannounced loadshedding.

A Wapda official when contacted said that the recent rain which accompanied by storm, had disrupted the line system which is being corrected.
