LAHORE, June 14: Peace in the region cannot be achieved without creating a culture of religious tolerance and respect for the views and opinions held by others.
This was noted by artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer while speaking to Dawn on Friday, a day after his peace walk from the shrine of Data Ganj Baksh to Wahgah.
“The vested interest often exploit the religious and regional differences to create chaos in the world,” he said. “For achieving global peace, all such differences need to be done away with. This is precisely the message of all our saints and poets.
They spread the message of love and peace that we seem to have forgotten. Their message must be spread amongst the masses to bring peace to this region,” he maintained.
Apart from a message of love, Engineer said, the sufis had also outlined practical ways to attain peace. “Individual sacrifices lead to general good. This is what I do when I walk in the intense heat for regional peace.”
