KARACHI: Preventing use of mobile phones in crime urged


KARACHI, June 13: Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, has stressed on strict adherence to rules and regulations in the issuance of mobile phones, and directed that it should be ensured that the facility is provided only to genuine persons after getting their full particulars.

The governor was addressing a meeting during a visit to the headquarters of the newly-established CID police on Thursday. He emphasized on preventing the use of mobile phones in committing crime.

The governor was briefed on the performance and activities of the CID police by Inspector General, Syed Kamal Shah and DIG CID, Ghulam Muhammad Malkani. The chief secretary, Javed Ashraf Hussain; principal secretary to the governor, Akhtar Zamin; home secretary, Mukhtar Ahmed; secretary finance, Fazal Rahman and other officials were also present.

Governor Soomro observed that it is the duty of the government to protect the life and property of the citizens and to root out crime from society. He stressed that besides eliminating criminals, their harbourers should also be traced out so that they could be taken to task.

Earlier, briefing the governor, DIG Malkani informed that since the inception of the CID in August 2001, six gangs involved in sectarian terrorism have been busted, while 18 terrorists of the defunct Sipah-i-Sahaba and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, four terrorists of the defunct Sipah-i-Muhammad and four more ethnic terrorists have been arrested.

The gang of Dilawar alias Dildar and his accomplice, Shahzad Maqsood, was involved in ten heinous crimes, including the murder of nine people offering prayers at Imambargah Hur, besides Waqar Hussain Naqvi, advocate; Sardar Jafri, advocate; Muzaffar Kirmani, DSP Syed Sadiq Hussain Awan, two Iranian engineers, etc, he added.

The DIG further said that terrorist Muhammad Rasheed alias Andha was involved in four high-profile murders of sectarian nature while Lal Muhammad alias Lalu, involved in 19 cases of sectarian killings, was killed in encounter recently with the CID. The murders he was involved in were of Dr Haider, Dr Mansoor Ali Shah, Shahnem Hussain, Dr Shakir Zaidi, Asad Ali (Iranian national), Dr Saqlain Rizvi, Dr Aijaz Ali Shah, Javed Akhtar, Hussain (Iranian national), Syed Afzal Shah, MD PSO, Syed Shaukat Mirza; Dr Asad Ali Bukhari and others.

The DIG gave the background of more terrorists and the cases they are involved in. They are Mufti Muhammad Shahid, Haider Ali, Talha Hussain, Khalil Ahmed, Syed Muhammad Qasim alias Qasim Surjaniwalla, Hafeezur Rahman, Maulana Sanaullah and others.

Faisal and Sabir of Asif Ramzi gang were arrested with rocket launchers, LMG, hand grenades, hundreds of rounds, fake number plates of vehicles, pamphlets on Afghanistan and other subversive material.

They are charged with the murder of Sunni Tehreek’s Saleem Qadri and four others, killing of two prisoners and injuring five others and four cops in an attack on a prisoner’s van in Nabi Bux PS area, rocket attack on Government Commerce College with the intention to attack Sheraton Hotel, killing of Nazar Abbas and one other near Nishtar Park, attack on PCO, killing of Imtiaz Ali and Mohammed Abbas in an attack on Askari Computer Institute, killing of Dr Sibtain Ali Dosa at his Kharadar clinic, killing of Mohammed Arshad and Ali Nawaz and Sardar Ali Jaffery, advocate, in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The DIG disclosed that the CID also arrested one Muhammad Umer alias Chhota involved in three cases, including an attack on Imambargah Hur killing 10 and injuring five people, murder of RTA superintendent, Syed Hasan Ali Rizvi, etc. —PPI
