LAHORE, June 11: A three-member team of the National Reconstruction Bureau called on the Punjab chief secretary here on Tuesday and discussed with him the Draft Police Ordinance, 2002.

Provincial secretaries of the Local Government, Home and Law Departments, the IGP and the district Nazims of Lahore, Attock, Chakwal and Dera Ghazi Khan were also present on the occasion.

The NRB team included ZU Khan, ZA Qureshi and AA Shigri.

According to a handout, the meeting discussed in detail matters relating to the proposed powers and role of the district Nazim under the new police law, redressal of complaints by people through the district public safety commissions, and registration of cases and their investigation. The Nazims’ powers for maintaining law and order were also discussed.

The final recommendations by the NRB team would be placed before the federal cabinet for approval.
