ISLAMABAD, June 9: Supreme Court Bench hearing the Riba case will not sit on Monday, as Chief Justice Sheikh Riaz Ahmad, who is heading the bench, will be the acting president of Pakistan for three days.

The Shariat Appellate Bench will reassemble on June 13 (Thursday), after the return of President Pervez Musharraf from his visit of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

After the Judges Case in 1996, the judicial functionaries had vowed not to hold executive posts, as it was in conflict with the concept of separation of the judiciary from executive.

However, after the dismantling of civilian rule, the practice of appointing judicial functionaries as president and acting governors have again been revived.
