BAHAWALNAGAR, June 6: At least 20 men and women on Wednesday night attacked a police party and got an accused released near Chak 55-Fateh, tehsil Chishtian.

Reports said the Hasilpur police officials were taking accused Muhammad Arif involved in a quarrel to the police station when 20 people attacked them, injuring three constables.

Constables Khaliq Mahmood, Yaseen and Khadim Husain were admitted to a hospital.

The police have registered a case with no arrest so far.

ARRESTED: The district police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a middle school headmaster who had been heading a gang of motorbike thieves.

On a tip-off, the Faqirwali police raided a hideout and arrested two members of the gang. The arrested men led the police to the arrest of rest of the members.

The police claimed they had recovered two motorbikes the gang drove away with a few weeks ago.

TERMINATED: District Education Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob on Thursday terminated a lady teacher charged with forgery.

The DEO also ordered registration of a case against Rakhshanda Khushi of the Government Girls High School, 204-Murad, Chishtian. —Correspondent
