SARGODHA, June 6: An assistant sub-inspector and a proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter in Bukhi Laksemn village, some 45 kilometres from here, on Thursday.

On a tip-off, a police party headed by ASI Ahmad Khan Ghugh chased proclaimed offender Babu Khan, wanted in a murder case registered with Bhagtanwala police station, and his accomplices. The PO opened fire on police who retaliated. As a result, ASI Ahmad and PO Babu died while his accomplice escaped.

It was learnt that Babu’s accomplice Nawaz was also killed by police after the encounter. However, no police official confirmed the killing of Nawaz.

DOCTOR SUMMONED: District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Abdul Rasheed on Thursday summoned DHQ Hospital’s orthopaedic surgeon for not treating a firing victim properly.

Muhammad Azeem was shot at and injured by a union council Nazim and his accomplices. He was taken to the DHQ Hospital where Dr Muhammad Amin did not treat him properly. As a result, the boy’s leg had to be amputated in a Lahore hospital.

The judge has directed Dr Muhammad Amin to appear before the court on June 7.

Plundered: Bandits on Tuesday night took away cash, gold ornaments and valuables from passengers near Bragtanwala police station, some 20km from here.

Reports said three bandits intercepted a Lahore-bound coach (SGJ-9755) near Bragtanwala police station. They held up the coach occupants, bagged cash, jewellery and valuables and fled.

Police have registered a case.

Some armed men deprived a man of Rs70,000 in cash when he was returning home after withdrawing the amount from a bank.
