PESHAWAR, June 2: Residents of Mohmand Agency have expressed concern over the lack of schools for girls in the area.

According to a survey conducted by the District Core Group, Mohmand Agency, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, the total population of the agency is 484,620, out of which 220,000 consisted of women.

The survey said that only three high schools for girls had been established in the area, which, too were suffering from under-staffing and lack of basic facilities, depriving the area women of basic facility of education.

The survey conducted by Shams-ul-Qamar Shamas, Coordinator, Core Group HRCP, Mohmand Agency, stated that 40 per cent female population of the agency had no access to primary education, 60 per cent was deprived of middle education, while 80 per cent is deprived of secondary education.

The report shows that only 397 girls were studying in these three high schools. Except for high school at Subhan Khwar where a lady science teacher has been appointed, the remaining two schools had no science teacher and the students were compelled to study only the arts subjects.

Although computers have been provided to Ghalani and Yaka Gund girl schools, due to lack of computer laboratory and teacher and other staff, they had been dumped at a place.

The HRCP has demanded adequate education facilities for the girl students.—PPI
