HYDERABAD, May 31: The vice chancellor of Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, has said that the inter-linkage programme was a major step towards educational reforms in the universities.

He was presiding over a meeting of the heads of different institutes of Hyderabad and Jamshoro in connection with the inter-linkage of all libraries with Allama I.I. Kazi Library, Sindh University, Jamshoro.

The meeting decided that in the first phase, data would be collected within two months by each participating library about its total collection and for this purpose a detailed proforma was distributed among the participants.

The meeting also decided that in a short time all the seminars and departmental libraries would be inter-linked with the central library of the university and the available information would be shared with them.

It was further decided that an intensive refresher course on the application of computers to librarians would jointly be organized by the IMCS and the central library from June 17 and two staff members from each participating library would be trained freely in the first phase. In the second phase the senior faculty members and deans of various faculties of the university would be invited for detailed briefing on familiarization about the inter-linkage programme.

The meeting further decided that in the third phase training would be given to anyone interested in it from within the university and outside.

MUET: The Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, from July 16, will observe five working days in a week with enhanced working hours from 9am to 5pm with one hour lunch-cum-prayer break from 2pm to 3pm. Saturday and Sunday will be observed as off days.

This has been notified by the vice chancellor, Dr Abdur Rehman Memon.

The VC had held a meeting with the deans and academic heads on March 22 in which the issue of working hours was decided.
