SANGHAR, May 29: The dusty winds, coupled with shortage of irrigation water and persisting hot weather, have damaged cotton, chilies, sugar-cane and orchards.

Due to the acute shortage of water in canals, cotton and chilies have been sown only on a small area.

Farmers have told Dawn that due to the hot weather and winds the water needs of crops have increased as the water given to the crops evaporates soon and the crops need more water within a week.

Some farmers have installed makeshift tube-wells to meet the water shortage and the water is applied without examining the quality of water.

The fruit size in mango orchards remained small and mangoes had less juices due to the acute shortage of water.

The decrease in mango produce has caused loss of million of rupees to growers and contractors of orchards.
