Farmers not getting gunny bags

GUJRANWALA, May 29: The food department officials of Alipur Chattha are not providing gunny bags to farmers who have deposited earnest money.

This was stated by Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Zahid, Muhammad Shahid and Naveed Anwar on Wednesday.

They told this correspondent on Wednesday that they sent a memorandum to the Punjab governor, Anti-Corruption Establishment director and food department high-ups in this regard on Tuesday.

They said that they deposited Rs50,000 earnest money with the Alipur Chattha procurement centre for the supply of gunny bags. But they have not been provided with gunny bags while their wheat was lying open in the fields.

According to them, commission agents were buying wheat from farmers from Rs260 to Rs270 and selling it to food officials at the rate of Rs300 per 40 kg.

They demanded punitive action against food officials and immediate provision of gunny bags to farmers.

ARREST WARRANTS: The local banking court No 1 on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for three bank managers besides forfeiting their salaries for not producing the records of defaulters in court.

The judge had summoned Gujranwala HBL’s Khiali Gate branch manager, Wazirabad HBL’s branch manager and Kamoke MCB’s branch manager along with the record. But they did not appear before court.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court also issued arrest warrant for Sialkot Satrah police SHO on the charge of not producing the record of a murder case.

shot dead: Robbers shot dead the district vice-president of the Punjab Teachers Union on resistance near Pero Shahad Rahwali on Wednesday, family said.

Police claimed that Rana Ghulam Sarwar was killed by rivals.

Family said that Mr Sarwar was going to the Kot Asadullah village school where he was posted in the car of his brother. Robbers intercepted the car (STB-8000) near Rahwali on G.T. Road, attempted to snatch cash and opened fire when he resisted. Mr Sarwar died on the spot.

Cantonment police claimed that Mr Sarwar was shot dead by his rivals as his body was found in the car parked on G.T. Road.

Police seized the car and sent the body to the civil hospital for autopsy.

A case has been registered.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Teachers Union have strongly protested over the killing of Rana Sarwar.

The office-bearers of the union, at a meeting held here demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in killing of Rana Sarwar.

WAGON LOOTED: Armed highwaymen on Wednesday looted a passenger wagon near Qila Doonga Singh, Wahando.

The wagon (LPT-7920) going to Wahando from Kamoke was intercepted by four robbers. They snatched jewellery, cash and wristwatches from passengers and escaped in an official vehicle.
