LAHORE, May 18: The five-year-old Blu’s Wendy, with an impressive victory and a close second on the trot, looks day’s best, when the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races gets under way at the Racecourse Sunday.

He is contesting in the fifth and feature event in a five-event card. This son of Blu’s Maid out-of-Whisper Of Wendy, will however, have Star Gate and My Own Business, constant thorns in his sides going over five furlongs. This is a class VII division I & II combined handicap race.

In the opening event that commences at 2.30 pm., there are ten acceptors left-in after the scratching Saturday. It is a coincidence that non of them have appeared on the board yet. This makes the race interesting and an open affair and has rightly been named as “ Maidens’ Plate, a class VII division VII event.

The feature event, the Ghakkar Plate, a class IV & V combined handicap race has been declared void due to lack of runners. Thus the card has to be reduced to only five events. After that the Charsaddah Plate Class VII Division I & II (combined) becomes the feature event.

In view of the scorching heat here, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have decided to curtail the distance of races. From now onward Wednesday’s Lahore Gymkhana races will be held over 800 metres while the distance of events to be contested on Sundays’ will be 900 metres.
