PESHAWAR, May 13: The city police arrested 1200 outlaws, 135 among them proclaimed offenders, and seized 435 weapons of different calibres, 26 hand-grenades, 15000 cartridges and a large quantity of contraband during the last one month.

This was stated by Senior Superintended of Police (operations) Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Marwat during a briefing to journalists at Police Headquarters here on Monday.

He said that the Capital City Police, during several operations, arrested 135 proclaimed offenders wanted in murder, attempt to murder, robbery and other heinous crimes in various localities of the city.

He said that 390 outlaws were arrested for possessing illicit arms. The weapons seized included 50 Kalashnikovs, 23 Kalakovs, 72 rifles, 56 shotguns, 210 pistols, 13 pashpashas, 11 stenguns, 26 hand-grenades and 15000 cartridges.

During the operations against the drug paddlers, he said the city police seized 853kg of hashish, 39kg of opium, 17kg of heroin, 150kg of locally-made liquor and 69 bottles of foreign-made wine, and arrested 715 people. The police also arrested 120 gamblers and took into possession hundreds of thousand of rupees in stake money.
