Arsenal clinch 13th successive triumph

LONDON, May 11: Ipswich Town were relegated after a 5-0 drubbing at Liverpool on Saturday, while premier league and FA Cup winners Arsenal clocked up a record 13th consecutive victory by beating Everton 4-3 at home.

Arsenal, who secured the title at Old Trafford in midweek, were followed in the table by Liverpool, whose victory means they do not have to qualify for the group stage of next season’s Champions League.

Manchester United finished third after being held to a 0-0 at home by Charlton Athletic, while fourth-placed Newcastle United went down 3-1 at Southampton.

DYER STRETCHERED OFF

SOUTHAMPTON: England’s Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer was stretchered off during their final premier league game of the season against Southampton on Saturday, SkySports reported.

Dyer, who would be a first-choice for England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson at the finals, was sprinting down the right flank when he was felled by a two-footed tackle by Moroccan defender Tahar El-Khalej.

El-Khalej was red-carded for the challenge.
