ISLAMABAD, May 10: The Inspector General of Police, Maj (Rtd) Mohammad Akram Chaudhry, has directed the capital police to beef up security around all the major hotels here to counter any untoward incident, following a blast outside a hotel in Karachi.

The hotels where security has been tightened included Marriott, Best Western, Serena, Crown Plaza, Holiday Inn and Islamabad Club.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the general managers and chief security officers of these hotels was held with the deputy commissioner, Tariq Mahmood, in the chair here on Friday.

The meeting was also attended by the SSP, Assistant Commissioner (Rural), DSP (security/traffic) and DSP (special branch). The hotel managements informed the meeting that they had tightened internal security system to ensure the safety of visitors, guests and foreign nationals.

They said the measures include round-the-clock working of close circuit cameras, deployment of private security guards and foolproof parking arrangements. The DC said the special checking teams would be constituted which would visit these hotels to ensure that security arrangements were in place.—PPI
