Yousuf asked to explain

KARACHI, May 6: Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) has asked former World Amateur Champion Muhammad Yousuf to submit written explanation for his misbehavior during the final of 6th Style Snooker final at Karachi Gymkhana (KG) last month.

The PBSA executive committee set-up a five-member inquiry committee to look into the affair. Members of the Committee included senior vice president, PBSA Tahir Dada, Wahid Tawawalla, Abdul Wahid Qadir, Anwar Jaffer Ali and secretary Aspi Mavalwala.

A spokesman of PBSA said Monday that Yousuf may have to appear before the committee to clarify his position in case of disciplinary action requested by KG for his behavior witnessed by the members of KG and spectators present during the final.

Yousuf has denied allegations. But in a letter addressed to KG Billiards Committee, he tendered an apology describing the incident as an exchange of of harsh words with another gentleman on April 20.

It may be recalled that Yousuf allegedly showed unsporting behavior and was involved in altercations with KG officials over seating arrangements during the final.

Yousuf, who lost the final 6-2 to his arch-rival Saleh Muhammad did not shake hands, neither with the winner nor with PBSA president Asghar Valika at the prize distribution ceremony while receiving runner-up trophy and cash prize.

Yousuf allegedly hurled abuse at one of the PBSA organizer Shoaib Alam Khan and misbehaved with him during the match after Saleh levelled 2-2.

Shoaib and members KG Billiards Sub-Committee and secretary Muhammad Ali Aziz lodged complaints with PBSA against Yousuf over the fiasco. —APP
