GUJRANWALA, April 30: Public transport vehicles, impounded by the district administration and police during the last three days for referendum, were released on Tuesday.
More than 90 per cent buses, wagons, pick-ups etc were impounded while owners parked the remaining vehicles at ‘safer places’.
ROAD ACCIDENT: An elderly passer-by was killed by a mini-bus on G.T. Road at Rahwali on Tuesday.
According to reports, Ghulam Nabi was crossing the road when a Rawalpindi-bound mini-bus hit him. He died on the spot.
Cantonment police registered the case against bus driver who escaped.
MURDERED: Two people were shot dead in Kalasaki Ahmad Nagar village on Tuesday.
Police said that Muhammad Ashraf and Muhammad Arshad clashed with each other two days ago over a quarrel among their children. The notables of the area intervened and the matter was resolved.
Ashraf’s 15-year-old son Ali Ahmad was intercepted by Arshad when he was going to home from a market. Both exchanged hot words and Arshad opened fire, killing Ali Ahmad on the spot.
The relatives of Ali Ahmad attacked the house of Ashraf and shot him dead.
MAY DAY: The Gujranwala Employees Welfare Federation has finalized arrangements to observe May Day on Wednesday (today).
A public meeting will be organized at the Bakhtiar labour hall on G.T. Road at 10.30am. District Naib Nazim Haji Gohar Zaman will be the chief guest. Later, a rally will also be held.
It was decided at a meeting on Tuesday presided over by federation president Mian Ataur Rahman.
