LAHORE, April 22: Employees of the eight boards of intermediate and secondary education in the Punjab continued their strike for the fifth day on Monday.

Lahore board employees union general secretary Shahnawaz Bhatti said that the Punjab Employees Federation of Education Boards decided to continue the pen-down strike till the implementation of new pay scales.

Speaking at a news conference at the Lahore Press Club, Mr Bhatti demanded that provincial authorities should negotiate with the federation and resolve the issue at the earliest.

Answering a question, Mr Bhatti said the decision to postpone the strike would be taken by the federation.

Earlier, employees federation legal adviser Muhammad Hanif claimed that the provincial finance department had nothing to do with the affairs of autonomous education boards.

He also explained to the newsmen the legalities involved in the implementation of the new pay scales for boards employees.

It may be mentioned that Mr Hanif had recently resigned from his office of general secretary of Lahore board employees union against federation’s decision to observe a pen-down strike.
