‘Police unaware of investigation procedure

LAHORE, April 22: Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan of the Lahore High Court while granting bail to a petitioner on Monday observed that our illiterate and dishonest police have no knowledge of investigation.

The judge observed that the police tortured innocent citizens and it should be stopped to revive people’s confidence in police.

The court granted bail to Nika of Tandlianwala against surety bonds of Rs50,000 and also directed the trial court to decide the matter as soon as possible.

The bail application filed through Advocate Rai Khalid Kharal submitted that a case was registered against four people for killing one Mazhar Ali on April 26, 2001. Though, the lawyer contended, his client’s name was not in the FIR, the police arrested him.

He informed the court that the police was using delaying tactics to finalize the investigation and his client had been in police custody for the last one year.—APP
