RAWALPINDI, April 18: All main political parties that are opposed to the referendum, have told their representatives in local bodies not to extend cooperation to Gen Musharraf’s campaign.
“They (Nazims) know the party’s stand. They should know we are opposed to the referendum. There is no need for written directives. Those who are affiliated with us will not support Gen Musharraf’s referendum,” said PML (N) Information Secretary Siddiqul Farooq.
Jamaat-i-Islami has directed its 12 Nazims and Naib Nazims and 150 councillors to keep away from rallies being held by Gen Musharraf and refrain from casting vote in the referendum.
The PPP has 23 Nazims, 23 Naib Nazims and about 400 councillors and they all, in accordance with the party decision, will boycott the referendum. A party spokesman, Nasir Mir, told Dawn that none of the party’s local bodies members would assist in mustering support for Gen Musharraf and would remain indoors on the referendum day.
