GUJRANWALA, April 12: The renovation of the century-old local main railway station has been completed here on Friday.

Railways and communication federal minister inaugurated the station.

Meanwhile, the city railway station was being closed on the occasion.

Railway officials said the station had been shifted as there was no room for expansion of the offices and other facilities on both sides of the tracks on the old station.

RECORD: The record in the SSP office is being computerized to streamline the routine functions.

This was stated by SSP Muhammad Aslam Tarin while talking to newsmen here on Friday.

He said the complete record of the office would go cyber to provide facilities to both public and police.

The computers had already been purchased for the purpose, he said, adding experienced officials would be assigned the task.

KILLED: A man was killed while 16 others sustained injuries when a bus overturned near Sodara Town, Sialkot Road on Friday.

A Sialkot-bound bus (LHK-9818), while trying to overtake another bus, rammed into a roadside tree and overturned near Sodara Town.

Dilawar Husain died on the spot while 16 others, including bus driver Javed Iqbal and conductor Gulzar Ahmad, sustained injuries.

The injured were taken to the Wazirabad Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

NABBED: A councillor was among the five electricity thieves nabbed by Gakkhar Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) sub-division officials on Friday.

Reports said the team raided the houses, removed meters and other equipment and issued heavy detection bills.

It was learnt that some Nazimeen of union councils recommended that the councillor should be spared.

However, SDO Tariq Sahi maintained electricity thieves would not be spared at any cost.
