LAHORE, April 4: President Gen Pervez Musharraf will begin his referendum campaign by addressing a public meeting to be organized by the district government at the Minar-i-Pakistan here on April 9.

District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood presided over a meeting of town and union council Nazims and councillors at the Nazim House here on Thursday evening to finalize arrangements for the meeting. Data Ganj Bakhsh and Ravi Town Nazims did not attend the meeting.

The Nazim directed each of over 3,100 councillors to bring 40 people to attend the meeting besides arranging two wagons for their transportation to the Minar. He allowed every councillor to recruit two sweepers.

He said the councillors refusing to cooperate would be abandoned. The Ravi Town and Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Nazims were not cooperating but their councillors were with him, he claimed. — Reporter
