GUJRANWALA, April 3: An inquiry was initiated on Wednesday against the CIA SP and Ghakkhar SHO for detaining four people and taking away their three vehicles and valuables.

The range SP has been deputed an inquiry officer.

Fiaz Bibi had moved the Lahore High Court that her husband Khursheed Ahmad and three relatives were detained by two police officers in the lock-up of Ghakkhar police station. They also took away three vehicles, a TV set, ornaments and other valuables from their house. A bailiff recovered the detainees, including spouse of the complainant from the Ghakkhar police station. On the orders of the LHC judge, police registered a case against both police officers under various offences.

The inquiry officer summoned police officers in his office and recorded their statements.

According to a report, they told the inquiry officer that detainees, including the complainant, were involved in dacoity and robbery incidents while police recovered looted goods from their possession.

EXECUTED: A condemned prisoner involved in the killing of two brothers was executed in the central jail here on Wednesday.

Muhammad Asif along with his accomplice Muhammad Nawaz of Wazirabad had killed Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Ashfaq during a cricket match over a minor conflict on June 6, 1990.

The additional district and sessions judge had awarded death sentence and fined Rs0.4 million each to both convicts. Later, the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the decision of sessions court. The president had also rejected his clemency appeal. Jail authorities have handed over the body to his heirs.

ESCAPES: A prisoner on Wednesday escaped after jumping over the boundary wall of a local jail.

Muhammad Tariq, involved in a narcotics case, was detained in the jail. He was cutting the grass from the jail compound along with other prisoners when he disappeared.

A case has been registered against two guards Ghazanfar Ali and Muhammad Asif.

FROZEN: Accounts of the district council were frozen by a local court on Wednesday for not clearing the income tax.

The district council did not pay the income tax during the last fiscal year despite repeated notices and reminders. The income tax department moved the court and got frozen its accounts.

Meanwhile, district council employees could not get their salaries of March as the bank returned their cheques with the remarks that accounts had been frozen.

DISMISSED: A traffic constable was dismissed from service while two-year services of two headconstables were forfeited due to inefficiency here on Wednesday.

Muhammad Safdar was sacked while services of headconstables Muhammad Iqbal and Mushtaq Ahmad were forfeited.
