Tehsin finishes on top

KARACHI, April 1: Tehsin clinched the CandyLand bridge tournament when they overpowered CandyLand (Zia) in the final at Aslam Memorial Hall at National Stadium late Sunday night.

Tehsin and CandyLand (Z) entered the final round after defeating Akbar and CandyLand (M) in the semifinal.

Tehsin finishing on top in the qualifying round picked up Akbar for the semifinal, thus both the teams from CandyLand had to face each other at the other table.

In the first round between Akbar and Tehsin, the former made costly mistake by erratic bidding and wishful play, which gave Tehsin an edge of 31 IMPs.

However, in the second half, once again Akbar made all out efforts, while Tehsin became defensive and this resulted the recovery of 24 IMPs. By virtue of their first round 31 V.P. lead, Tehsin reached the final.

At the other table Candyland (Z) finished 24 points ahead of their senior string.

In the final match Candyland (Z) put up spirited fight. However, the superior approach by Tehsin crowned them as the new champions.—APP
