Fair ICA elections promised

ISLAMABAD, March 29: Lt. Gen Tauqir Zia, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board said Friday that as directed by the Lahore High Court, transparent and fair elections of Islamabad Cricket Association would be organised within seven weeks.

He said that scrutiny of clubs done in 1999 would form the basis for elections as the entire process cannot be repeated in a time span of seven weeks given by the court. “Some people with vested interests are trying to put words in my mouth by saying that scrutiny of clubs would be reinitiated.”

“If there is a problem of a few clubs, the PCB scrutiny committee will look into it as the entire scrutiny cannot be done in seven weeks. It would require more than a year which is not possible.”

Tauqir said that he had already directed Brig (Retd) Khawaja M. Nasir to chalk out a plan for holding elections, the dates of which would be announced shortly.

The ICA affairs are being run by an ad hoc committee headed by Syed Mansoor Ahmed. The Lahore High Court (Rawalpindi Bench) in a verdict recently had said that ad hocism cannot continue forever, therefore it would be proper if ICA elections are organised by PCB within seven weeks.
