KARACHI, March 27: The inaugural three-day Sindh Governor’s Shooting Championship will be held at the Naval Shooting Complex from March 29 to 31 under the auspices of the Sindh Rifle Association (SRA).

The championship will be conducted in skeet and trap events while point 22 rifle, air rifle and Big Bore Pistol events will also be contested. However, those events will be counted towards awarding of the trophy.

Over 75 marksmen representing the Army, Navy, Punjab, Balochistan and host Sindh will be contesting in the event. However individual shooters from POF Wah, NWFP will be featuring in the competition.

National skeet and trap champions Cdr Munir Ahmed and Sepoy Shafiq both from Navy will also be taking part in the championship.

However star attractions in the skeet event will be the 2000 Sydney Olympian Khurram Inam and his arch-rival Ahmed Sultan.

Details of the event were announced at a news conference Wednesday by President SRA Rear Admiral Nashat Raffi and secretary Arif Faheem at the Naval Shooting Range where the championship will be held.

Nashat Raffi speaking on the occasion said they are trying to improve the standard of sport and create more facilities for shooting. He said SRA is trying to secure a place for its shooting range.

Captain Jabir Bin Yousuf is the technical director of the championship.

Sindh Governor Muhammadmian Somroo will be chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony on Sunday.—APP
