KARACHI, March 22: The Judicial Magistrate, East, Ms Sadaf Asif, gave on Friday five days of further physical remand of seven human smugglers, Dennis Charles, Dairek Charles, Joseph Aziz, and four women, Shazia, Nasreen, Parveen and Nazeeran, up to March 27.

The court instructed the investigation officer of the case to submit the final challan of the accused on March 27. The IO cited reasons for getting extension in police remand as identification parade of the accused was to be held and their confessional statements under section 164 of CrPC would have to be recorded.

On March 15, the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police recovered 11 young children, aged from 10 days to two years, from house No A-29 in Block 13-D-1 of Gulshan-i- Iqbal and arrested the accused. During preliminary investigation, the accused disclosed that they were going to smuggle out these babies to Malta where they sold each child for 20,000 US dollars. — APP
