ISLAMABAD, March 21: National Bank outplayed PIA 4-2 Thursday, the last day of the National Hockey Championship preliminaries, at the POF Welfare Centre.

In other matches, Allied Bank and UGC battled to a 4-4 draw while Wapda scored a 2-1 win over POF and Army drew 1-1 with Police.

Nadeem, Asif, Tahir Zaman and Anis were the goal-scorers in National Bank’s victory with Shafqat and Aqeel scoring for PIA.

Wapda’s victory over POF was made possible by strikes from Mudassar and Rauf Ahmed while Shiraz was on target for the losers.

Mohammad Shahbaz (Junior) netted for Police and Dilawar scored for Army in their drawn game.

PTCL, ABL, Wapda and Habib Bank qualified for the main round from Pool A while NBP, PIA, Police and Army made it through from Pool B.
