LONDON, March 17: A Libyan on the United States’ list of most wanted terrorists who is believed to be a senior member of Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda terrorist network has been captured in Sudan, a British newspaper reported on Sunday.

Abu Anas al-Liby was being held at a high-security lockup in Khartoum, US intelligence officials told The Sunday Times, and he is accused of planning the 1998 embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed 224 people.

If confirmed, his arrest would be the first of the 22 men named as Washington’s most-wanted terrorists. Al-Liby was among 10 accused Al Qaeda arrested secretly last month in Sudan.—dpa
