Unity among religious groups urged

Published March 17, 2002

MINGORA, March 16: The NWFP Jamaat-i-Islami Amir, Prof Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, said on Friday that the government has failed to meet the people’s expectations and the only solution to the problems lies in unity among the religious groups.

Speaking at public gatherings at Madyan and Mingora, the JI leader said the religious groups would participate in the coming elections from the platform of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal. He expressed the hope that the secular forces would be defeated in the elections.

He said the country was passing through worst economic and political crisis.

The JI leader said the government’s foreign and domestic had failed and alleged that President Gen Pervez Musharaf was following policies of the Zionist forces.

He opposed the government’s policy of disbanding the jihadi organizations and said the policy would have negative impact on the Kashmir policy.

He said the United States had violated human rights in Muslim countries.

He said the rulers in the past had looted national wealth and the people had now rejected Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League.
