KARACHI, March 15 : The employees of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) have assured the government that they will not cause any hinderance to the production process nor will they resort to actions which might disturb the law and order situation.

The assurance was given at a meeting held at the governor’s house on Friday. It was chaired by Sindh governor Mohammadmian Soomro and attended by the members of the joint action committee of the administration and the employees of the PSM.

The meeting was also attended by federal secretary production, Dr Ikram; Sindh minister for industries, Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui; provincial chief Secretary, Jawaid Asharaf Hussain; Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan and other high officials.

Speaking on the occasion the governor said that industrial peace was a prerequisite to proliferation of investment and any subversive act to disturb it would be dealt with an iron hand.

He, however, promised to review the problem facing the employees of the PSM on humanitarian basis.

The governor assured the employees that no action would be taken against those involved in strikes and other such activities between Jan 31 and March 15. However, he said, any such act in future would result in in legal proceedings and registration of cases for previous disturbances.
