Two killed as car skids off road

SHEIKHUPURA, March 14: Two persons were killed while another sustained injuries when they met with an accident on the motorway near Gujiana, some 30km from here, on Thursday.

Lahore High Court’s Justice Najamul Hasan’s son Ihshamul Hasan and his friend Zahid Malik were on their way to Islamabad by a car when one of its tyres burst and it skidded off the road near Gujiana.

Hasan and Malik died on the spot while driver Sharif sustained injuries. He was taken to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

FIRE: Bales of cotton worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a factory on Lahore Road, some 18km from here, on Thursday.

The fire brigade was busy in extinguishing the fire till last reports came in.

ELECTIONS: Elections for four members of the Public Safety Commission were held at the district council hall on Thursday.

Rana Iftikhar Husain, Syeda Fakhar Shaheen, Nadeem Nawaz and Ahmad Khan were elected members by obtaining 39, 35, 32 and 28 votes, respectively.

The elections were supervised by elections tribunal headed by local District and Sessions Judge Malik Khadim Husain.

He said some 61 applications had so far been received for election of another four members.
