CAPE TOWN, March 8: Australia’s Brett Lee bowled the fastest delivery recorded in a cricket match during the second Test against South Africa Friday.
A Lee delivery to Jacques Kallis during the morning session was timed at 98.4 miles per hour using equipment operated by South African company EDH (Electronic Development House).
“Our equipment is set up according to the highest standards. That particular delivery came up as a 100 percent read — I’m confident it is accurate,” Schalk Esterhuyse of EDH said.
The previous highest reading was a delivery of 98.2 mph recorded by Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar, although Australian Jeff Thomson is widely believed to have bowled the fastest delivery before the advent of modern timing equipment.—Reuters
