ATTOCK, March 3: Five persons of a family were shot dead and a man was injured in a political feud on the outskirts of Domail village, some 40km from here Saturday evening.

Another person was kidnapped by the alleged assailants.

Nine persons, led by Domail Union Council Nazim, allegedly broke into the house of Mohammad Maskeen and started indiscriminate firing on him and his family members.

Maskeen, his wife, Bani Begum; two sons, Tanveer and Mohammad Nazir; and his mother-in-law; were killed on the spot. His third son, Mohammad Ilyas, was injured while the fourth, Naseer, was kidnapped by the intruders.

According to an eyewitness, the local police arrived at the site about three hours after the incident.

The injured, Mohammad Ilyas, said the Nazim was an activist of the MQM and had come to Domail village from Karachi to contest the local government elections. He said his family’s relations with the accused turned soar during the election campaign.

The district police officer told Dawn that three of the accused had been arrested while the others were still at large.

The DPO assured that action would be taken against the accused.
