KARACHI, March 1: The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)’s Forward Mounting Base (FMB) at Quaid-i-Azam International Airport was declared operational following a meeting between the Deputy Director General, Civil Aviation Authority, Air-Vice Marshal Arshad Rashid Sethi and the British High Commission’s Defence Attache, Brigadier Torren-Spence here on Friday.
According to the CAA, the FMB staff based at Karachi airport has now completed the first successful mission in support of the ISAF in Afghanistan.
The ISAF is based in Afghanistan at the request of Afghan interim administration and the multinational force will assist the Afghan nation in their attempt to bring lasting peace to their country.
The ISAF is operating under a UN Security Council mandate and is bringing much-needed stability to Kabul and its environs.
The FMB staffs are also multinational in makeup and currently consist of military staff from the UK and Greece with possible future contributions from Portugal, Belgium and Romania as the FMB grows in size. —APP
