SIALKOT, Feb 22: Local SSP Muhammad Tahir has suspended SHO, two sub-inspectors and 12 other policemen for killing the councillor and injuring his wife in Miani Pathaanan Di village, Head Marala police station on Thursday.

Those suspended included SHO Inspector Zafar Iqbal, sub-inspectors Basharat and Muhammad Iqbal, ASI Sagheer Ahmad, Head Constable Naseer and constables Abdul Mannan, Dilawar Husain, Muhammad Khaliq, Abdul Hafeez, Sanaullah, Muhammad Ayub, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Akram, Khalid Husain and Manzoor Ahmad of Muradpur police station.

health care: The district government is working on a comprehensive primary health care programme for early provision of facilities to the people in far-flung areas.

This was stated by Sialkot district Nazim Mian Naeem Javed in a press release issued here on Friday.

Three trauma centres, one each at the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital and tehsil headquarters hospitals in Daska and Pasrur would be established at a cost of Rs30 million, he said, adding an amount of Rs60.5 million would be spent on the construction of a new block at the Daska Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. He maintained the government would soon establish a free medicine club in collaboration with the lcoal business community for the provision of free of cost medicines to the poor besides formulating the public advisory committees for enhancing the performance of the government hospitals in the district.

The Directly Operated Treatment Short-Course (DOTS) was in progress for the eradication of TB, he said.

Applicants for the appointment against all the vacant posts of the doctors in all the basic health units were under perusal and the doctors would be appointed at the centres closer to their residences on a five-year contract.

Mr Javed said the Punjab government had released a special grant of Rs350 million for the timely completion of 251 various department schemes in Sialkot.

The district government also contacted Unicef for the early provision of better sanitation and drainage services to both the rural and urban people in the district, he concluded.
