RAWALPINDI, Feb 18: Paceman Tahir Mughal ran through the Islamabad batting Monday snaring six wickets as Sialkot bowled them out for 206 on the first day of the Quaid Trophy Grade-I match at the KRL Stadium.
Tahir was in devastating form and returned figures of six for 67 off the 23 overs he bowled, four of which were maiden. Among his victims was Test all-rounder Azhar Mahmood who scored a slow 32. He was expected to turn around Islamabad’s fortunes but proved to be a disappointment.
By the close of play, Sialkot had lost both openers Khurrum Hussain and Obaidullah for a total of 71.
Islamabad, tottering at the bottom of the table in Group-II, were unable to do much with the bat in the face of some good Sialkot bowling for whom captain Aamir Wasim also picked up two wickets. He too was quite economical and conceded 29 runs in 15 overs with six of them maiden.
Irfan Bhatti topscored for the home side with 39 not out, an innings which had six fours.
