KARACHI: Four persons shot dead over drug trade rivalry

KARACHI, Feb 14: Four persons, including three members of a family, died in an armed attack in Liaquatabad in the early hours of Thursday.

The police said that members of a rival gang barged into Shoaib’s house in Ilyas Goth, C-1 Area, Liaquatabad, and opened indiscriminate fire seriously injuring Sharifa Bibi and her two sons, Yousaf and Swaleh.

Family members present inside the house returned the fire injuring one of the assailants, identified as Rauf.

The police said that while fleeing the attackers shot and wounded Abid who was outside the house.

The injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Sharifa Bibi and her two sons died. Rauf also died in the hospital. Abid was admitted to the hospital, the police said.

The assailants, belonging to Barkat Baloch’s gang, active in Lyari in drug peddling, attacked the house of Shoaib, son of Abdul Sattar, over trade rivalry, the police said.

The drug peddling gangs of Shoaib and Barkat had had a long-running feud since long. The two gangs had been active in drug peddling in their areas, the police said.

Shoaib had recently been released from prison on bail in a firing case, which was registered by his rivals.

The police said that Swaleh was an ambulance driver and Yousaf worked as a conductor in 7-C route bus.

The Supermarket police, in whose limits the incident took place, claimed to have arrested two members of Barkat’s gang, Ghulam Mustafa and Qadir.

The police were conducting raids at different places to arrest the other suspects wanted in the case.

Shoaib was also, reportedly, injured in the attack.

ROAD ACCIDENT: Three young men, riding on a motorcycle were knocked down by a recklessly-driven water tanker (GTR-0102) the near Siemens roundabout in SITE on Thursday.

They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival. They were identified as S. Kazim, aged 24, Iqbal, aged 25, and Yaqoob, aged 23.
