Majid Khan was elected MPA twice from PF-27 on the Awami National Party’s ticket. He defeated former NWFP governor Fazl-i-Haq in 1988. When the ANP refused to award him the party ticket in 1997 elections, he joined the party’s dissidents  who established the SQM.
