MARDAN, Feb 9: The Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Mr Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, said here on Saturday cheap justice could be ensured to all and sundry provided the judiciary and the lawyers community forged mutual cooperation in the best interest of society.
The problems of society could be solved through mutual cooperation between the judiciary and lawyers community, he said while speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected office-bearers of the District Bar Association.
Earlier, DBA President Iqbal Khan Hoti, in his welcome address, listed the problems facing the lawyers community in the district courts.
He said the district desperately needed a new court complex as the present court buildings were crumbling.
Iqbal also demanded setting up of a PHC circuit bench in Mardan as most of the civil and criminal appeals and writ petitions in the PHC pertaining to the Mardan division were pending for years.
He said the people were facing several problems due to the heavy backlog of civil and criminal cases.
Due to the workload, he added, one more additional sessions judge be posted in the district.
The chief justice said the demand of setting up circuit benches of the high court at Malakand and Bannu had also been made by the Malakand Bar Association and the Bannu Bar Association, but added the demand could not be met due to scarcity of resources.
A judicial complex, he promised, would be constructed when the Asian Development Bank (ADB) would provide funds from the Access to Justice Fund (AJF).
Books would also be provided to the bar library in the near future, the CJ further promised.
He directed District and Sessions Judge Abdul Matin Khan to send a summary in connection with the separation of judicial and general record and availability of computer to protect it from ruination.
Among others, Justice Khalida Rachied, Justice Shah Jehan Khan and the officials of the executive and the judiciary attended the function.
RUSTAM-BUNER ROAD: District Naib Nazim Attaur Rehman has said Rs60 million had been allocated for the construction of Rustam-Buner Road, while development works worth seven million rupees were being executed in Rustam and Machi union councils.
Speaking to a gathering here at office of the Rustam Union Council, he said Rs60million had been allocated for the construction of Rustam-Buner Road. Of the allocated amount, Rs13.2 million would be spent this year and Rs10 million would be utilized the next year.
