HYDERABAD, Feb 8: The president, Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (Ponam) and chairman, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, has said that any move to divide Sindh into pieces would be strongly resisted.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that historically Sindh had always remained one country and a separate political and geographical entity. He said that no one had the right to distort the geography of Sindh.
He rejected the proposal of the chairman, National Reconstruction Bureau, to create 26 provinces in the country and said that NRB would not be allowed to play with destiny of the people nor had it had any mandate in this regard.
Dr Magsi said that a particular anti-Sindh lobby had been hatching conspiracies for dividing Sindh for a long time. When the present government on the recommendations of this lobby announced a plan for district and city governments, his party had made it clear that this plan was aimed at dividing Sindh.
He said that the people of Sindh were very sensitive about the unity of their motherland and added that if the rulers did not abandon their anti-Sindh plans then they would have to face strong opposition.
NEW CROPS: The vice chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, Dr Bashir Ahmed Chandio, has urged agricultural scientists to evolve new methods of cultivation.
He was speaking at a seminar on breeding and genetics-resistance power of crops at the university senate hall in Tando Jam on Friday.
The VC said that time had come to introduce new varieties of crops which could resist various diseases, salinity and water logging and required less quantity of water.
Speaking on the topic, Dr Mohammad Iqbal, said that he had worked on ten varieties of crops on experimental basis out of which four were found capable of resisting disease, water logging and salinity.
He hoped that his research would go a long way in evolving more such varieties.
Kazi Suleman Memon, Dr Mohammad Ali Chang and other agricultural experts also spoke on the topic.
Meanwhile, Sindh Agriculture University has extended the date of submission of examination forms for second term regular examination 2000 of all classes from fist year to final year at all faculties.
The last date for submission of the forms with usual fee of Rs300 has been extended to Feb 28. The forms could be submitted with late fee of Rs150 from Mar 1 to 2.
The examinations will commence from Mar 5.
