KARACHI: Highway blockade: Transporters end RCD

KARACHI, Feb 3: Transporters on Sunday lifted the blockade of RCD Highway after 73 hours, allowing normal flow of traffic to and from Karachi and Balochistan in response to assurances by the city government in a meeting, which was chaired by City Naib Nazim.

The city administration assured the transporters of solving all their grievances on behalf of Governor Mohammedmian Soomro.

It was decided that another meeting between the representatives of the transporters and officials of the city and provincial governments would be held on February 6 to discuss the transport-related issues.

Later, Naib Nazim Tariq Hasan visited the RCD Highway and appealed to the protesting transporters to end the protest campaign. In response of this, the transporters unblocked the highway.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Transport Ittehad president Syed Irshad Husain Bukhari said Sindh Home Secretary, DIG Operations, Naib Nazim and EDO Transport had assured him that the demand of the transporters had been conveyed to the high-ups in Islamabad.

Mr Bokhari said these officers had sought three days for withdrawal of the rise in the toll tax.—PPI/APP
